We were thrilled when we saw Thomas Paul's scrimshaw melamine collection. The coasters are great of course as coasters, but we've also been told people use them to serve appetizers- how fun! These coasters are 4.5" in diameter and show 4 different sailing knots, white on navy.

Scrimshaw was an art practiced by sailors on whaling ships out at sea. It usually consisted of elaborate whaling scenes incised into the teeth of whales. The scrimshaw melamine collection looks to recapture the feeling of this art form, luckily no whales were harmed this time!
